My "New" Garden

A few months ago after I got back from my visit to Utah it started to rain here for a couple weeks straight. In that time I was unable to go down to my garden because of the rain and the fact that I didn't want to take my 3 month old out in the cold. Daniel would pass our plot almost every day on his way to school and look in to make sure everything was ok. On the day the sun began to shine again I got a call from Daniel telling me that someone had taken over my garden plot and had dug everything out. I was really confused so I left a note telling the people in a nice way that the plot was mine and not to do anything else to it until we could get everything sorted out. To make a long story short there was a new guy put in charge of the gardens and the previous garden guy didn't keep a record of who had what plot so he didn't know the plot was mine and gave it away. I asked for it back and he gave me some crappy "Sorry I can't" story which REALLY irritated me because we had been taking care of that plot for over 6 months. He finally agreed to give me a better plot than the one I had previous and even though I wanted my origional plot I agreed once I saw the location of the new plot.

So here's a picture of the new plot when I very first got it...

And here's a picture of the plot after Daniel and I worked on it today...

Let me point out a few things about the difference in these two pictures.

1st thing- In the first picture you'll notice a raised area in the middle of the plot (on the right side of the picture) that has a few things growing then in the second picture that area has been completely dug up and practically taken out. The reason for this is the guy who had the plot previous to us (his name is Mike and the main gardener guy who's now in charge of things is named Fito) took the plot over without any permission from anyone. Fito came along and realized he had 2 plots and told him that he wasn't allowed to do that so he had to give up this plot to someone else (me-but I didn't know at this time). When Fito gave me the plot he told me I could do whatever I wanted to the plot. I didn't know that Mike had already planted stuff in the plot. I saw a few plants and stuff in that middle section but I didn't see anything else so I planted my own stuff. Mike was super mad and left a really mean note saying how dare I ruin his garden plot blah blah blah. I informed Fito who went and had a fight with the guy over it and Mike said he wanted his plants back. I told Fito I didn't care if he took his plants back because they were rightfully his so he came in and took everything from that middle section. It's kinda nice for me now because it's empty and I can plant whatever I want in there now!

2nd thing-Notice in the back of the first picture the lush green just on the other side of the fence then in the second picture the big ol' pile of weeds in the right corner and the chair in the left corner. Yeah, I weeded that whole area, aren't you proud of me??! I had the darndest time doing it because the weeds are really prickely and sting your hand if you touch them! The good thing was they were super easy to chop down with a shovel and the ground is nice and soft. I totally want to plant corn back there now because it can get as big as it wants!

3rd thing- In the first picture on the left there's green plants and in the second picture those green plants are HUGE! I'm a little worried about these plants because these are some plants that were planted by that Mike guy. The other day when I was watering my garden he was out in his garden and came over to meet me. He said he wasn't mad at me because he knew I didn't know but he was just really frustrated with the situation. He said because the plants were so big now he couldn't transfer them into his own garden. Then he took the hose from me and started watering my garden after I was starting to walk away. Is that weird to anyone else but me? I know those are technically his plants but this is my garden now and I had just finished watering it...whatever!

And finally you can't see it too well but on the back row in the first picture there's nothing really growing but in the second picture there's little bits of green stuff growing...Hurray!

Today since this is Daniel's last day of Spring Break (and pretty much last day he can help me with stuff) I put him to good work putting in bricks to make me a flower area and entrance place. I thought it turned out pretty good.

(We found the bricks in the "magic dumpster" which worked out great. I still can't figure out a good place for the cinder block and pieces of wood but I'm sure it will come in handy at some point)

I found some bulbs of what look like tulips in the big bunch of weeds on the back end and transfered them to the flower area and I also planted some sunflowers in this front flower area that I got from my mom and sweet pea from my sister. Thanks for the seeds in the mail guys!
