This poor little guy ended up in the Emergency Room again this morning. He wasn't getting any better and he woke up with a fever of 103.6. Daniel had to go to school which left me to do this trip solo.
We had a lot of tests to run today so we spent a lot of time waiting. This was when stickers became my new best friend! The worse part of the day was getting him a chest x-ray. They had to strap him down (literally strap him down with his arms over his head) in this machine that looked like a tube. He was so scared and I had to leave the room because I'm pregnant and I could hear him screaming the whole time. Of all the days for Daniel not to come with me!! I was holding back tears the whole time.
After many hours of tests and breathing treatments they finally came back and told me that he has Pneumonia AND RSV. They told me to keep a close watch on him for the next 48 hours and if he spikes a fever again then he'll have to be hospitalized. I really hope it doesn't come down to that. Keep sending positive vibes towards John!!
As many of you know Valentine's Day is my very favorite Holiday. I love the colors, the feeling of love in the air, making Valentine cards and presents, and I love, love, LOVE spending time with the men of my dreams: my wonderful husband and little boy. This is also one of the two times out of the year that we can afford going out to eat...like at a real restaurant. We are sometimes fortunate to get our $4.08 pizza from Little Ceasears (Daniel's employee discount), the dollar menu at Wendy's, or if we are splurging Panda Express. Two times of the year however we get all dressed up, actually go out to a nice restaurant, order from a menu, have the pleasure of using To Go boxes, and even leave a tip for the gracious person waiting on us. This is why our anniversary and Valentine's Day make me SO excited. This year we had gift certificates to Outback Steak House. We have a friend that works there and called ahead to see if we could be put in his section. Somehow they messed it up and we were put in the section right next to his so we still got to say hi to him but he was not our server...bummer! The meal was fantastic and John ate the bread more than anything else. We ended the night getting Cold Stone ice cream and took our traditional stroll through KMart (don't ask me why it's a tradition to go to KMart after our big dates but somehow for the past year and a half that has been the case each time!)
(Sidenote: we usually get a babysitter for important dates such as these however John was a little under the weather so we decided to keep him with us).
The next morning was Feb 14th which happened to land on a Sunday this year. I had stayed up late finishing off Valentine hearts for my primary kids and doing laundry (I taped together 2 candy canes to make a heart for each kid then put a little "Happy Valentines Day" note in the middle. I thought they turned out cute and I got a lot of thank yous from the kids) Because I stayed up getting everything done I was pretty tired at 5:30 am when my son woke up screaming. I went through and picked him up and his skin was BURNING hot. He also had a really funny cough and diarrhea. I changed his diaper and took his temperature. It jumped straight up to 102. I called my mom, and the doctor on call and they both told me to get him checked out as soon as possible. So off we went to the Emergency Room. They checked us in, put him in a really ugly purple hospital robe and put a tag on his foot. Then we waited for the doctor.
The official diagnosis: Acute Croup
They gave him a shot of steroids and then hooked him up to this ventilator thing that blew a cool mist into his lungs. It kind of smelled like fog from a fog machine. It took about 1/2 hour to 45 min to finish off the solution and John stayed sleeping for most of it. He eventually woke up screaming and Daniel had to hold him down to keep the mask on as I held his legs down so they could give him a shot. It totally broke my heart!
We got home and he spent lots of time sleeping which has been helpful. However my house has managed to stay even messier than usual this weekend. Oh well, I don't care about a mess right now I just want my little boy to get better. He's doing much better today but he's still a little sicky guy.
On a lighter note I'm pretty sure I felt the baby move for the first time yesterday!! HURRAY. That's 2 weeks earlier than my last pregnancy. I'm starting to show a lot more (pictures to come) and I'm still feeling pretty good.
This at least will be a Valentine's Day to remember! Hope all of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!!! :)
I'm due the first week in Aug and I feel great....almost too great. I actually thought something might be wrong with this one because I feel so incredible and have so much energy, but the doc says things look fantastic and the baby was moving around like crazy so I guess we're good!!! Still too early to determine the sex but I have a lot of votes for a girl. What do you think? ;)
I have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to take pictures in the snow and today presented itself beautifully! We took a ton of pictures but these were some of my favorites...Enjoy!!
John officially broke through his first tooth.... ...or should I say first 2 teeth!!!
Yes oh yes my friends after 14 and a half months of no teeth I finally felt a tooth at the bottom coming in. After getting majorly excited and trying to snap pictures of it with my camera phone I felt inside his mouth again and realized that there was one on the top as well. Yes you heard right...One on the bottom and one on the top broke through on the same day. I felt next to the bottom tooth and realized the one right next to it is really close to coming in as well. I tried to take a picture really close to his face to see if I could capture his pearly whites but the flash kind of took over and he looks really washed out. No matter! I'm sure I'll be taking plenty big toothy grin pictures soon enough. :)
The funny thing is I check his mouth all the time and he hasn't acted any different lately than usual. No fevers, no major drool, not even any major grumpy episodes. He puts everything in his mouth but that's normal so I was pleasantly surprised when I felt the teeth this evening after a full day of running around playing with all his toys happy as all get out!!! Man I love my kid :) Maybe this whole teething thing won't be so bad.....**knock on wood**
Yesterday we went and had John's Christmas pictures taken. I thought they turned out great. I seriously love watching the progression of John's attitude each time we get these pictures done. He starts out so happy and by the end...well you'll see for yourself!!!
